July Collections: Places
Casablanca on Poplar in Old East Memphis. As I was leaving, a couple was looking at the menu outside, and I said - oh just go on in!
In Memphis, we have a pyramid. It houses a Bass Pro shop, so the entrances look like a wood-clad lodge. It is an outdoor store that you have to drive to.
More take-out! This time it's what we've start calling "the usual" - shrimp and catfish po-boys from Soulfish.

July Collections: Food & Things
Here's my first entry for World Watercolor Month (#worldWatercolorMonth) was a super quick coffee cup and wonky plumb.
My second entry, just as wonky, was sketched at Mardi Gras Restaurant.
Working on #USkManchester2016 at the coffee shop, but too hot to for coffee.

Hustle
Tuesday night at Crosstown I sketched Robert Hollingsworth, Kenny Wayne Alexander, Jim Masterson, and Mary Jo Karimnia during the panel discussion at Hustle: Pricing Your Artwork. It was a great talk, and crowded! If you're interested in hearing more about practical art issues from the locals who know, check out Crosstown Arts.

(Sketched with Pentel Aquash waterbrush pens filled with Dr. PH Marten's watercolor.)

Sketching Workshop with Kids
Last month I taught a sketching workshop to kids from Carpenter Art Garden who are interested in starting their own sketching club. I gave them some pointers on drawing from direct observation and then we went to South Main and they just sketched and sketched and sketched!
They loved their sketchbooks donated by Stillman & Birn.
Here are some of their sketches and my sketches from the day are at the bottom.

Fall Classes at Flicker Street Studio
Sign up by July 24 and you get a $25 discount! Visit the Flicker Street Studio site to sign up!
Here's the description:
An artist's sketchbook is a bedrock for ideas, recording impressions, feelings, and thoughts about their world. This class will focus on sketching from direct observation and other methods for bringing those impressions to life. We will explore materials and sketching techniques to help you get to know your sketchbook better.
In November I'm teaching Fast Sketching, again on Tuesday Evenings from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
(November 1st - 15th).
This class will help students become comfortable with a variety of materials and the blank page, with sketching quickly and imperfectly, and with thinking of the whole book as one work of art.
There are so many great classes being offered this fall - be sure to sign up!
