Today and the Not Too Distant Past

Today (yes, that's right! Today!) I had a meeting about my show at ANF Architects (yes, that's right! A show!). Since ANF if just around the corner from my house, I scheduled the meeting for early, then treated myself to breakfast at Brother Juniper's before getting to work late! Nothing exciting, just some yogurt and granola and blueberries. Delicious yogurt and granola and blueberries. It is something I would only order when by myself. But don't worry, my waiter/friend Sean, who has been waiting on me there on and off since college, said "Booooooring" when I ordered it.

Anyway, here's some stuff on the counter (I ate at the counter).

Here is a sketch I made of a food truck - the Tamale Trolley - a few weeks ago. I want this blog to be more of a "here's what I sketched today" blog, rather than a "here's what I sketched a few weeks ago" blog, and the only way I can figure to do that is to post one from a few weeks ago with one from today.

A few weeks ago I was without a car for the day, so I was going to walk to my regular lunch joint. But then I saw two food trucks parked near my work! I ordered fish tacos, and drew this truck.

Saturday Downtown

A couple of weekends ago went to the Memphis Farmers Market with Heather and her girls, followed by a delicious lunch at the Arcade. Doesn't get much better than that.

I got a new car.

And I love it!

Studio Sketches

Working on sketches for paintings. These will not make it past the sketching phase.

Old Building

I went to sketch this building specifically - not something I do that often - but it is empty right now and I was worried that it might get torn down and replaced with a Family Dollar or a CVS. It's a neat building from the 60's that was originally a Union Planters Bank and then housed AAA. But now I hear a pizza place might go in there: woohoo!

New Brush Pen

Here's my new brush pen! I love it. I drew this while my movie was on pause. We watched all of the Harry Potter movies (for the first time) over a couple of weeks.

Hot Sky

Here was another day where I sat outside even though it was too hot - you can tell how hot it was from that sky!

After work I went to the Art Center and got some new supplies. I like the way my sketch looks with the test markings I was doing with my new Pentel brush pen and my the Dr. PH Martin's watercolor I mixed and put in a water brush.

Las Delicias!

There is a new Las Delicias on Quince, and it has a patio! And we sat on it and ate lunch even though it was too hot! Because it is so nice to have a little fresh air during the day, even if it's hot fresh air.

Abyssinia

A couple Sundays ago I went to get takeout from Abyssinia. I like to go there and order and sketch while I wait, which is just what I did.

The gentleman brought my food to the table and I told him I was just going to finish up my sketch, then I finished and showed it to him, then I picked up my food and headed at the door. As I opened the door I heard him say, "You didn't pay for your food." And I said, "Holy... shoot!" Then I paid for my food as I apologized repeatedly.

Creative Ladies

A couple of Saturdays ago I drove to Little Rock to go to the Container Store. You heard me.

Here's my view as I ate a quick snack before driving back home with all of my organizational paraphernalia.

Hanging Out at My Brother's

Went to dinner at my big brother's house, did some sketches and showed off my new pens and ink brushes and watercolor pens and to my nephew.

That lump in the chair in the first sketch is my niece Genevieve.

I did this on the day of my birthday party! Had to have a pedicure since I'd be taking off my shoes to get in the bounce house.

Running errands, of course. I am so unhappy with that sky - I should either use all watercolor pencil or a little watercolor pencil with water, but not both. Always learning.
