Family Sketches
A year ago today we buried my grandfather, Pop. Here is the story of that weekend with my family.

Self Comics
Also inspired by Inma Serrano, who on the blog Portraits without Mercy mentioned that she keeps a sketchbook of self-portraits; these are more comic-like.
This first one is "How I felt when I took a quick walk outside this afternoon." The rest are titled.
Did this one quickly on the 3x5 notecard I was using as a bookmark.
This one is an exaggeration, as standing in line for new tags really wasn't that bad (though I'm sure I'll make another one when standing in line at traffic court for the ticket I got for expired tags.)
The rest are 100% true.

Studio Night Last Night: During, Before, Finished and In-Progress
I sketched this before last night's Studio Night, after moving some things around. Then I finished the painting on the left and worked on the one in the center.
Here's me with some finished paintings from the series about my first trip to Spain. I'm calling these: Learning to Say I Love You in Spanish.
And here I am again, sans glasses (so I could see the picture I was taking) with an in-progress painting. Lately I've been sitting on the floor while painting. I had this one in my lap while I was working on it last night. The camera setting is weird so none of the painting's colors showed up. Oh well. Another good Studio Night.

Follow Friday: Sew Memphis
Here's a commission sketch I did for Sew Memphis, a local fabric store and sewing studio, to show the location of their new shop in Overton Square. Below that are some test sketches.
They have a great selection of fabric and they offer all kinds of classes - pay them a visit at their website or in person at their new location, 2075 Madison Ave (I think it opens in early November). They're also on Twitter and Facebook!

Using a New Moleskine Sketchbook Every Day
I wanted to really actually sketch every day, and I knew the only way that was going to happen was to use a Moleskine sketchbook - they are just so comfortable to me. I am more likely to capture all sorts of things, including the mundane things of every day, like the little bag of free samples I got from my allergist.
