Cruise/New Orleans/Mardi Gras Sketchbook - New Orleans!

Monday morning the boat docked at New Orleans, and we all piled into the car, deposited our bags at the hotel and walked to the French Quarter. It was sad to leave the boat, but it was nice to be on solid ground again.

The first order of business was beignets and cafe au lait. Next, wandering around. After that we went to Pierre Maspero's for a drink and decided to stay for lunch.

I saved my little silverware holder and pasted it in my sketchbook so that I would never again forget the name of this restaurant. When we were wandering around I kept suggesting we try to find "the restaurant with the M."

Cruise Sketchbook - Last Cruise Day

Here is our perch on the last day of the cruise. We again took possession of the best table at the back of the boat, this time on the opposite side. I know there are particular words for that, but to me it's just the back of the boat, on the left. We were there from breakfast through lunch, just hanging out.

Cruise Sketchbook - More Cozumel

After moving to the shade, I made the top sketch while watching the water, drinking a margarita and eating nachos.

The bottom sketch is of an "uninhabited hotel" that is adjacent to the beach club. It probably really isn't a hotel anymore, but it seemed a little inhabited.

Cruise Sketchbook - Cozumel!

The ship docked at Cozumel early Saturday morning. We got off the boat, looked around for a cab, and found Javier. He has a big taxi van and took us and about seven others to a beach club, where we claimed some beach chairs and got some margaritas and fish tacos.

Cruise Sketchbook: Day Two Perch

At lunch on our first full day at sea we grabbed a really good table. Outside, in the back, giving each of us a perfect view but covered to help with the wind and the tropical sun on our winter selves. Since there were five of us, at least one of us was there to save the table at all times while others wandered around or got more drinks. We stayed here for hours talking, eating, drinking, reading and laughing until we went upstairs on the open deck to watch the sun set.
